MAGNOLIA MARKET AT THE SILOS : 5 TIPS FOR ENJOYING YOUR VISIT

As most of you know, we got to visit Austin, Texas just a few weeks ago which now, in the wake of Hurricane Harvey seems strange. But on our last full day in Texas we got to check off one of our bucketlist items and visit the Magnolia Market at the Silos in Waco. B and I LOVE Chip and Joanna Gaines and pretty much everything they do! What’s not to love about a couple who started their business from the ground up by working together and enjoying the ups and downs together along the way!? #couplegoals If you haven’t had a chance to read their book The Magnolia Story yet I absolutely suggest that you do! It made me admire them more for everything they have accomplished together. Anyway, being huge fans we knew we had to take the opportunity to visit their property and it did not disappoint. Below we are sharing 5 tips as first time visitors that will help you make the most of your visit!!
1. Have a plan: We woke up early Monday morning so excited and ready to get on the road only to be greeted by harsh rains and less than ideal weather {seeing as how most of the property is uncovered}. Being the hopeless optimist, I changed my my sandals to sneaker, threw them into my purse (just in case) and we climbed in the car. I rained the whole drive there, HARD. BUT, minutes before we pulled into their parking lot {attached to the silos and located at the corner of 6th and Webster}, the rain stopped, the sun peaked out and it didn’t rain the rest of the time we were there! Of course a lot of people visit for the market itself but now having been I could’ve spent all day there and in the surrounding neighborhood. I suggest doing just a little research and having a plan. Also go with people who are equally as interested, my little brother was not having it and caused us to try to speed up the end of our visit. Do you plan on eating there? Do you want to just sit and relax? Do you have kids along? Do you enjoy antiquing yourself? Do you plan on visiting the Silos Baking co? Ask yourselves these questions and have a plan and expectation of the day so everyone is on the same page! Also, it’s no secret that the Magnolia Market pulls in big crowds daily so get there early and if you can, use the weather to your advantage. Because of the rain, the crowds were much smaller than the usual day! Also, Magnolia Market is closed on Sunday
2. Go to Silos Baking Co. first: If you plan on visiting the bake shop {which I totally suggest} make it your first stop. The line gets very long and if you wait, there is a chance of them selling out of certain product. You can sit in the adorable outdoor cafe’ and enjoy your treats as soon as you get them or take them home with you. My mom and I are total baked good snobs and so naturally between the two of us ordered almost one of everything, sorry not sorry! “The Prize Pig” bacon and cheddar biscuits were amazing and so perfect for a breakfast on the go since we arrived during prime breakfast hours. My favorite cupcake flavors were the Lemon Lavender, the Peach {its the seasonal flavor}, and the Nuts and Bolts cupcake. I don’t even like buttercream frosting and their buttercream was SO good! Also be warned, if you aren’t gentle with the carry out boxes, the cupcakes WILL flip over but still taste equally as delicious.
3. Explore the food trucks: By the time we left we were all pretty hungry but B and I were the only ones that went and explored all the different food trucks on the property and ended up ordering from Co-Town Crepes. The lines for food usually get long so I suggest trying to get food a little bit before prime lunch hours. Also because the food is all homemade right there, it’s going to be a bit of a wait so being early really doesn’t hurt. I got the turkey, bacon, avocado crepe and HOLY MOLY…that honestly might have been my favorite meal of our whole trip! Beside Co-Town Crepes there are plenty of other options including a coffee truck called Common Grounds, Cheddar Box which makes gourmet grilled cheese, and Chuck’s Gourmet Popcorn if you’re just wanting a snack. There are also so many seating options available, covered and uncovered, to sit and enjoy your food and live music plays on the property all day. It’s a great time and place to just hang out and enjoy your company.
4. Take your time in the Market/Garden: The garden store is so cute and worth a visit. They have some great accessories for those with a green thumb. The market is in the grain mill and has so many great home decor finds! Everything from silk flowers, tea towels, cutting boards, and vases, to wallpaper, paint, pillows, and home textiles. There’s also a section for the guys called Chip’s Corner that has a lot of great gift ideas for the handyman around the house. The market has so many things available for purchase, you don’t want to feel rushed walking through. Personally I just love all the attention to detail. It really is a warm and inspiring space!
5. Leave time to explore the surrounding neighborhood: This is something we didn’t get to do but I’ve heard great things, even from other visitors that day. Just one street over I could see a ton of cute shops and great antique stores and if you’ve ever watched Fixer Upper, then you know that a lot of Joanna’s shopping for unique pieces is done locally. Also, Baylor University isn’t far at all and looks like a great campus to visit if interested.
