an afternoon at the Hotel del Coronado
If you happened to catch last weeks post all about our recent trip to San Diego then you already know that our visit to Hotel del Coronado was my favorite day of the trip! As a lover of all thing timeless, I couldn't help but fall madly in love with the full immersive feeling that comes with a visit to the Del. Built in 1888, she stands firmly in all of her Victorian beauty welcoming people from near and far to take in the intricate details of her craftsmanship. You can't help but feel as if you've been transported back in time and yet, there is also a gentle modern nudge that breathes new life into the iconic space. If it were up to me personally, I'd be very content people watching from the rocking chairs on the front porch as the soundtrack of the greatest voices and musicians of decades past play overhead BUT there really is something for everyone on the property.
Wether it's a walk through the garden rose tunnel as you head to the beach, a stop for a drink at the beach front tiki bar, a scoop or two of ice cream at the ice creamery, a visit to the onsite museum, or just a self lead walking tour to take it all in, it almost feels like its own oasis. Then, as you head toward the beach, you can't help but admire each and every detail such as the fringed beach umbrella or the striped ocean front cabana beds. With small rolling dunes topped with purple sand verbena, Coronado Beach as certainly one of the most scenic beaches in Sand Diego.
We only got a half day to visit and explore but you can be sure that a stay at the Hotel del Coronado quickly jumped to the top of my travel bucket list. I feel like I just got to scratch the surface of exploring the incredible property and I can't help but covet getting to check in in that stunning lobby and be handed one of those stunning green tasseled room keys but until then, I hope this inspires you to go visit the Del for yourself!
