It took less than 12 hours to pass after our gender reveal for me to jump head first into planning the nursery for our little BOY on the way. I genuinely enjoy design...acts of service is one of the ways I best express my love so getting to create this special space is something I am taking very seriously. It's my first opportunity to create a special space for my son and I have big dreams of everything that means.
To me, a room should be a place that elicits a sense of calm and peace, a place you want to spend time in that feel uniquely you. Now of course, we don't know who he is quite yet, so a nursery is a really unique opportunity to then try to introduce your little one to things you're drawn to for them in the time while you wait for their arrival. I see this nursery as a really fun way to find a balance between my taste + interests, my husbands taste + interests, and all the wonders of early childhood. Some people, when designing a space choose a theme. I choose a feeling or a mood + an aesthetic to match. I look for a few unique pieces from the start that drive my inspiration for the room and allow the plan to grow from there.
For baby boy's nursery, I had a very clear vision and idea of the overall aesthetic + mood. This is a space not only for him to play, grow, + sleep in but it's a space where I envision our family collectively spending a lot of time...with feedings, tummy time, play time, bedtime stories, and all the other wonderful (and lets be honest, not so wonderful) day to day activities that come with raising a baby.
Aesthetic: English Countryside meets Hunting Lodge
Vision Board:
Wallpaper | Rug | Crib | Ottoman | Long Haired Sheep Rocker | Floor Lamp | Stacking Baskets | Dresser | Mirror | Sconces | Cotswald Sheep Print | Dog Sketch
I have this framed print, I've had a few years now of some Cotswald sheep grazing in a field (previously hung in my bathroom) that I was immediately drawn to incorporate into the nursery...it really served as my jumping off point. I also loved the idea of sheep/lambs for a baby boys nursery however, I am not a one dimension/theme kind of gal when it comes to designing a space (or a party for that matter as you'll soon see from our gender reveal party). I like layers that create that overall mood and aesthetic I start with. Therefore, I became very intentional about incorporating other animals that might also be found on the English countryside. Dogs, ducks, horses, etc. (you might have caught a glimpse of the brass mallard I found antiquing for the nursery over on my Instagram). The other big piece for me was pattern play and color incorporation. Plaid feels so timeless and masculine but can also feel stuffy and rigid at times. First and foremost I wanted this space to feel appropriate for a little one so when I accidentally stumbled on this particular wallpaper, I was again inspired...something about the not so perfectly straight lines felt exactly right for a little boy. I can't wait to get the sample in + hope I love it as much in person! This vision board is of course just a jumping off point, somewhere for me to visually collect my ideas, but I can't wait to share the nursery design and build-out process with you all along the way...4 months and counting until little man arrives!
