Pretty but Practical: Beach Style
It should come as little surprise to those of you who have been here before that I always look to make any occasion or location fashionable so naturally, the beach is no different. Growing up in California, the goal when we headed out for a beach day was pretty simple, only take the essentials...there is nothing worse than having to lug a bunch of stuff up and down the beach. The same rule applies to beach style, the goal should be to wear functional pieces that do the job without taking up space or occupying hands however, that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style to do it. I wanted to round up a few tips and ideas I use when heading to the pool or the beach for effortless feminine style that's pretty but practical!
Outfit Details:
A one piece swimsuit is the most versatile choice: think about this, a swimsuit is essentially a beach bodysuit. I look for one pieces that have one special detail that gives it something extra whether that's a dramatic neckline, a timeless pattern in a beautiful color way, or a unique but flattering cut.
A fun and flirty short silhouette goes a long way: ditch those basic jean shorts and try something with a little more flare. Even a cute scalloped sweat short over a great floral one piece says you put a little extra thought into your beach look {without actually having to try}.
A beach hat is ALWAYS a good idea, but opt for one that ties: anyone who has visited a beach before knowns that wind off the water is almost inevitable. Opting for a hat with a tie allows you to protect your face without having to hop onto your hat and when you're not wearing it, you can just wear it around your neck.
Sandals don't have to be boring: it's true that sandals are the only way to go near the water and styles that slide on and off are preferred if you ask me but that doesn't mean you're limited to flip flops. Instead, go with a leather slide sandal or a woven sandal for a comfortable but stylish twist on beach footwear.
A coverup doesn't have to be single use: don't get me wrong, I love beach pants or a cute tasseled coverup dress but traditional coverups are usually made to only be worn as such. Electing for your favorite white oversized button down shirt or a block print pareo that can double as a scarf stretches your dollar further and elevates your beach look.
