Trench Coat Styling for Spring
What is the most versatile jacket in your closet? I think the majority would say their favorite denim jacket but for me, it's my trench coat(s) {yes, I have multiple}. In my opinion, a trench coat is the easiest way to snazz up even the most casual or lounge worthy outfit, especially in the Spring! In fact, when I travel, I usually only take a carryon and if I have to narrow my jacket choices down to just one it is ALWAYS a trench coat. They say in Spring "April showers bring May flowers" and I find the Spring season can be especially hard to find a happy medium when it seems like the weather is different every day of the week. Today, I wanted to share two super easy ways I styled my most recent and favorite trench coat purchase to date! These looks are meant to be neutral, versatile, and could be recreated with even the most essential capsule wardrobe.
In another life, I'd own trench coats in a multitude of colors and cuts (because I love them and wear them that much) but when you DON'T have an unlimited shopping budget, you can never go wrong with a classic khaki trench. You guys have heard me say before that there are certain items worth splurging or spending a little more on and a really great trench that hits you in all the right places, is versatile, and well made is worth every penny. BUT with that said, prior to this latest purchase, which I hunted for for MONTHS before pulling the trigger, my go to, lightweight trench coat was one I bought at Forever 21 years ago for I kid you not, $25.
Here I kept things super simple: my favorite white sneakers, a classic white tee, and light wash denim to keep things light and airy for Spring. Paired with a rattan bag, this is the perfect weekend look that could easily be taken from day to night by simply swapping out sneakers for heels and maybe changing the shirt for something a little more fun though, a basic white tee can hold its own too (especially with a great statement earring for contrast)!
You'll notice most of the accessories stay the same however this look would be something I'd wear to a casual date night or get together with friends. Same white sneakers and rattan bag but I've paired the trench here with my favorite LBD to create a different silhouette and add a touch of femininity. A swipe of red lipstick would also really pop paired back to all the timeless neutrals & on a warmer night, you can swap out the sneakers for a cognac slide or wrap sandal.
If trench coats are a new style for you, I'd suggest starting with a more budget friendly option to allow you some time to style it for yourself and decide if it's something you'd get plenty of use out of if you invested in a nicer one in the future. If you've been on the hunt for a lightweight well made and flattering trench coat, I can't suggest this one enough! I've linked my trench and several other options at all different price points for you all! If you have any styling tips or trench coat questions, let me know and happy styling!!
